Fish Skull

Description

EDIT:// Apparently, it's a type fo fish skull. Thanks for the help, every one :)

Okay, this bone is puzzling :/ I have no idea what kind of bone this is or what it belonged to. I found it in a Florida forest right by a pile of old armadillo bones. It's about 2 1/2 inches long. At first I thought it was some kind of skull, especially because of those lobes or whatever, like the underside of a cranium has, but then I realized, there's no nasal cavity or proper cheek bones. So then I thought, perhaps it's some kind of bird skull, and my dad suggested a snake, but it's neither those, too. A bird has much larger eye sockets that wouldn't be that close together, and it isn't like a snake skull. Soon after, I was wondering if maybe it was a breast bone from a bird, but there's too much on it to be a breast bone. I have no idea what kind of bone this could be or what it belonged to.

Does anybody else have any ideas or know what this is exactly? Any help at all would be great!

Thanks.

Oh, also, that white thing in the middle of the bone, where it looks like the eye sockets, that's a rock. It fell out while I was taking pictures (as seen in the bottom left image). There are still a couple more rocks in there.

I know you uploaded this a long time ago, but I didn't see anyone mention that the "rock" that was inside the skull is actually a bone! It's called an otolith, it's the fish's ear bone. :D If you still have it, you can check out this chart to figure out what kind of fish it was!
